December 2001 Papoose Article

On Sunday, November 18, 2001, we held our annual Awards Brunch at the Lake Mohawk Country Club. We had a good turnout for this event which officially marks the end of our sailing activities with the announcement of finishing places and the presentation of trophies and special awards.

The Lightning Fleet had five boats qualify for the Fall Series. The first, second and third place boats for that series also ranked in the same order, overall (ie. Spring Series and Fall Series combined). Rich Miner, who took first place is, once again, the fleet champion. The results are as follows:

First Place Fall and Overall:

Skipper: Rich Miner

Crew: Gail Miner and Lorraine Oeters

Second Place Fall and Overall:

Skipper: Perry Anderson

Crew: Margaret Anderson and Gary Oeters

Third Place Fall and Overall:

Skipper: Don Okner

Crew: Jim McMahon and Silke Oberdorf

Fourth Place Fall:

Skipper: Mark Marussich

Fifth Place Fall:

Skipper: Hank Jelinek

Crew: Annalise Jelinek

The Snipe Fleet sailed a combined Spring and Fall Series and three skippers qualified. The results for the Snipes are as follows:

First Place Overall:

Skipper: John Marx

Second Place Overall:

Skipper: Jeff Urbanski

Crew: Gregory Urbanski

Third Place Overall:

Skipper: Bill Batchelor

Crew: Kayoko

As mentioned above, special awards, including those coveted turtles, were also presented. Those results will be reported in next month’s Papoose. In the meantime, remember that we will be joining the Powerboat Club for their annual Holiday Dinner/Dance on December 14, 2001 in the ballroom of the Lake Mohawk Country Club.
