On Sept. 18, Mother Nature gave us some wind—not a whole lot, but enough so that we were able to race. Three Lignthings and two Snipes were ready but only one Snipe, skippered by John Marx, sailed the course. Perry and Margaret Anderson set a course in the light to moderate wind that we had out of the North East and we sailed two races, the second race requiring a shortened course. Finishing positions for both races were the same with Rich Miner in first position followed by Hank Jelinek second and Don Okner third.
However, Sept. 25 brought more of the doledrums that we seem to have been experiencing. It looked somewhat promising in the morning but by race time, there was no wind so Race Officials John and Margie Incantalupo, who were ready and able to go, did not have to set a course. Those who showed up to race socialized for a while and the went on to do other things—such as apple picking.
The lack of good sailing conditions persisted on Oct. 2 with only two Snipes sailed by John Marx and Constance Gill attempting to race and the Incantalupos cruising in their Lightning. If that wasn't enough, on Oct. 9 there was too little wind to move a boat so racing was again canceled. As this article goes to press, we only have one racing day left for the season. Will there be wind? Will there be boats? Will there be racing?
Our Annual Meeting was held on Oct. 15 and the following slate of officers was elected for 2012: Commodore, Rich Miner; Vice Commodore, Gail Miner; Rear Commodore, Hank Jelinek; Treasurer, Perry Anderson; Secretary, Bambi Newton; Lightning Fleet Captain, Chuck Chute; Snipe Fleet Captain, John Marx; Three Year Trustees, Dave Newton and Constance Gill; Two Year Trustees, Ian Oldridge and Ken Potts; One Year Trustees, Jeff Urbanski and Hank Jelinek.
Our last official event for the year will be the Awards Party on Dec. 3. Please note the new location for this year will be at the home of Rich and Gail Miner and it will include a pot-luck dinner starting at 6:00pm. This should be a great event because parties at the Miners' are always terrific and awards will be presented. So, save the date and plan to be there.
