The LMYC is pleased to welcome more new members aboard. They are Ed and Julie Snook and Molly Whilesmith. Many new members, long time members and guests got together on May 30th for the third, annual Jimmy Buffett Parrot Head Party run by John and Margie Incantalupo. The weather, the food and the events, which included a limbo contest, a lime race, hula hoop competition and Jimmy Buffett sing-a-long were terrific. Thanks to Margie and John for a great time!

On May 16th, three Lightnings were on the course for our first day of racing for 2010. We sailed in an 3-8 knot wind out of the NNW that increased to 8-11 knots in the second race. Rich and Gail Miner were the race officials and Perry Anderson won both races with John Incantalupo in second place and Don Okner taking third in both races.

May 23rd started off as an overcast and rainy day, causing many sailors to make other plans. But the weather cleared by race time and Perry Anderson and John Incantalupo raced head to head, trading positions for first and second in two races in a NE wind that blew at 4-5 knots.

Our first open regatta was the Gabor Cup on May 30th. Lightning Fleet Captain Rich Miner and Gail Miner ran the event and John Miller served as race official. Four Lightnings, one Snipe and a Hobie Cat skippered by Rob Roy from Beach Three sailed in two races in a NWN wind of 3-10 knots in the triangle course first race and 3-6 in the Olympic course second race. Jeff Urbanski, with his son Keith took first place in a Snipe, followed by Lightning skipper Rich Miner and crew Gail Miner and Ken Potts in second place followed by Perry Anderson and crew Margaret Anderson and Shirley Miller also in a Lightning. Following the regatta, trophies (glass mugs etched with sailing ships) were presented and we enjoyed hors d’oeuvres as a warm up to the Jimmy Buffett party.

High winds followed by a rain storm on June 6th brought in a cool front but resulted in a cancellation of racing on that day. However, there are many more weekends left and much more racing will take place. Also, for the months of July and August, Constance Gill will be running Wednesday night Snip and Sunfish races. Because of the success of this program last year, weekly races are planned.

Take note that our next regatta, the Marine Base Regatta, is scheduled for Saturday, July 3rd. There will be no racing on Sunday, Independence Day, July 4th. Remember, regattas are open to all LMCC members with sailboats of any kind. Even if you have never raced before, you will have fun and may do better than you expect. Just ask Rob Roy who joined us for the Gabor Cup. So join us to race and compete for a trophy. Registration begins at 12:00 noon and the first race starts at 1:00 pm.

On July 4th we will hold our annual Independence Day party. This is a popular event that ends with a great view of the fireworks over Lake Mohawk, so sign up early. Also, If you want to join the LMYC, if you want to learn to sail or if you want more information, just call us at (973)512-8867, email us at sail@lakemohawksailing.org or write to PO Box 29, Sparta, NJ 07871.

Until next month, smooth sailing and God bless America!
