August 2020 Papoose Article

Post date: Jul 11, 2020 5:01:36 PM

We had great hopes of having our first race day and our annual Gabor Cup Regatta on July 5th. However, we had to cancel the event because of lack of wind coupled with heat and humidity. The wind did come later in the afternoon, but there was not enough at our usual start time of 1:00 pm.

July 12th turned out to be a great day! We had two races in perfect conditions—wind out of the southwest blowing straight up the lake at 8+ mph. Rich Miner and Karl Hauck skippered Lightnings, Tim Mackey sailed a Snipe and surprise visitor Alex Fox joined us for one race the in a Sunfish. Team Okner were race officials with Lukas raising flags and sounding the finish line horn in the timed events. Rich Miner led the way with two firsts followed by Tim Mackey, second and Karl Hauck, third in both races.

Our club members have been able to go out cruising and practicing. The artistic photo shown with this article is of Larry Scheer out for a cruise. The photo was taken by Ian Oldridge who is responsible for nearly all of the terrific LMYC photos that appear in the Papoose. He also does a great job maintaining our website!

Our next scheduled regatta is the Marine Base Regatta on August 16th. Regattas are open, handicapped events so any LMCC member with a sailboat of any kind is welcome to join us. The following are the race official assignments for the upcoming weeks:
