The LMYC is enjoying busy summer with both sailing and social events. We sailed one race on June 16 with Rich Miner taking a first, Perry Anderson second and Don Okner Third in the Lightnings. Tim Mackey was first in the Snipes and Constance Gill capsized and did not finish. On June 23 the Lightnings sailed two races. Rich Miner and Perry Anderson swapped for first and second place and Don Okner took two thirds. On June 30, we set a course but no boats started due to the wind conditions.

On July 6 the conditions were near perfect for our Marine Base Regatta. Four Lightnings and four Snipes raced an Olympic course set by John Incantalupo with Sean Incantalupo in the crash boat. Sean's services were needed when Constance Gill capsized. Rich Miner and crew took first place with Jeff Urbanski second and Perry Anderson and crew third.

The LMYC Junior Sailors float was again awarded First Place for Community Organizations in the Sparta Independence Day Parade. Our traditions of training quality junior sailors and winning our parade float division continue. Special thanks to Margaret Anderson for the shirt design and production, Jan Oldridge for organizing and keeping us on track, Ian Oldridge for materials, assembly and photography, John Miller for towing the float, Perry Anderson for picking up the boat, Mark and Catherine Marussich for the use of their boat, Brad Newton, Haley Chute and Matt Gomez for crafting and rigging a mast & sail from rudimentary materials in less than an hour and finally Haley & Hannah Chute for making and painting the many shields that decorated the float.

Later on July 4, we held our annual Independence Day party And capped the evening off enjoying a view of the fireworks. We express our gratitude to all who helped with the Independence Day party, including Cathy Chute for making it happen, Bambi & Dave Newton, Margaret & Perry Anderson, Rich & Gail Miner, Hank & Beth Jelinek, Jan & Ian Oldridge and John & Shirley Miller.

Here are some dates to note for August and the months that follow: Jack Robertson Day – August 10; Commodore’s Cup Regatta and Party – September 1; Finish Line Party – October 26; Awards Banquet – December 1.

We offer adult and individual sailing lessons for those who are interested. And, if you are looking for great gifts for a sailor or for yourself, you can order shirts and gear with our logo through the club. Also, to help raise funds for the Junior Sailing Program, Haley Chute had bags made from sails. They are available at Cathy Chute's Lake Mohawk Flower Shop in the plaza.
