Racing is well underway and our social activities are in full swing for 2010. June 20th brought light air that reached a maximum of 5 mph out of the southwest. John Marx served as race official the five Lightnings that competed in one race in which Rich Miner took first place followed by Perry Anderson in second and John Incantalupo in third position.

On June 27th things picked up a bit with southwest winds at 6 to 8 mph allowing for two races. Three Lightnings skippered by Perry Anderson, Hank Jelinek and John Incantalupo finished in that order for both races. The Snipes only sailed one race with all boats over late for the start. Jeff Urbanski came in first, with John Marx in second and Sean Incantalupo third. Don Okner was race official, assisted by Josh Oldridge and Ed Snook.

The Marine Base Regatta was held on Saturday, July 3rd. Three Lightnings, four Snipes, two Sunfish and an O’Day, skippered by Joe Martin from Beach Three, competed in light winds out of the south-southwest. Rich Miner and crew Gail Miner and Ken Potts in a Lightning came in first followed by John Marx in a Snipe in second place. Perry Anderson in his Lightning with crew Margaret Anderson and Ali Brown (back from Ethopia for a month) took third. Jeff Urbanski served as our race official and Snipe Fleet Captain Constance Gill did a great job organizing the event and coming up with useful and decorative picture frame trophies.

On July 4th the day started with Chuck Chute’s Lightning and a crew of pirates participating in the Sparta Independence Day Parade. Captain Hook (Jack Robertson) lead the way in the tow car. Afterward, we will held our annual Independence Day Family Picnic. The party was run by Cathy Chute and Bambi Newton. Everyone had a terrific time and the LMCC firework display provided a beautiful ending to a perfect and very hot day.

July 11th brought light and spotty winds in which two Lightnings and three Snipes participated in one race. Rich Miner took first place in the Lightnings followed by Hank Jelinek in second place. Jeff Urbanski lead the way in the Snipe Fleet followed by Constance Gill in second place and Sean Incantalupo taking third. Chuck Chute was race official.

The Mutiny Regatta was held on July 24th. Results will be announced in next month’s Papoose. Also note that Jack Robertson cruising day is Saturday, August 14th . Plan to come down for some relaxed sailing and lunch--and to say hello to Jack.

Our final open regatta for the year, the Commodore’s Cup, will be held on Sunday, September 5th. Remember, regattas are open to all LMCC members with sailboats of any kind. So join us to race and compete for a trophy. Registration begins at 12:00 noon and the first race starts at 1:00 pm.

If you want to join the LMYC, if you want to learn to sail or if you want more information, just call us at (973)512-8867, email us at sail@lakemohawksailing.org or write to PO Box 29, Sparta, NJ 07871.
