April 2025 Papoose Article
The Lake Mohawk Yacht Club started its 2025 season with an exciting and fun-filled Game Night hosted by John and Shirley Miller at their lovely lakefront home.
The members were divided into several teams and competed in Uno, Blank Slate, Left-Right-Center and Charades. The first place team of Constance Gill, Joe Fleming and Gail Miner just about doubled the scores of the next two teams that tied for second place. Those two teams had to compete in multiple tie-breakers to determine second and third places. Their chosen contenders, Karl Hauck and Birgit Bogler, scrambled hard for silver. Winning teams received multiple prizes.
In addition to the games, the food was great, with particular praise for the meatballs. The desserts were overwhelming, including strawberry short cake, lemon cake, cheese cake and great cookies. But most of all it was the fun and friendship among the members that made the Miller Game Night a great success.
As we go to press, the LMYC will be holding a presentation by John Miller on the “Introduction to the Racing Rules,” on Thursday, March 6 th at 7:00 p.m. in LMCC’s Mohawk Room. John previously taught sailing with Steve Colgate’s Offshore Sailing School and later started our Junior Sailing Program here at the LMYC.
Sailboat racing is exciting but also intimidating. Obtaining a good grasp of the rules can make racing less intimidating and more enjoyable.
Jon Hirschey, the Rear Commodore and Docks and Grounds Chairman, has called for the Spring Cleanup on Saturday April 12 th at 9:30 a.m. An advance team, led by Jon, John Trela and Perry Anderson will work with a welder to attach new
brackets to the bulkhead to hold the new floating docks firmly in place. Bring your rakes, gloves and tools. Coffee and donuts will be served. Later that evening the LMYC will be holding a Board of Governors’ Meeting to more fully lay out the 2025 season and get it underway.
