In view of the dramatic catastrophe in the Golf of Mexico and the outrageous developments in this context, "ethecon - Foundation Ethics & Economics" appeals to the public with an international call for a boycott.
BP is with a sales volume of 367 billion US dollars the fourth largest concern in the world. The oil catastrophe, for which BP is responsible, is a harrowing example of how financial holders and company executives as a whole, in their race for ever higher returns and profits, are bringing our planet to the brink of disaster. "ethecon - Foundation Ethics & Economics" is launching a boycott against the BP concern and as many of its subsidiairies and brands as possible, such as AMOCO, ARAL, ARCO, BP-Solar CASTROL, am/pm and the WILD BEAN CAFÉ.
Let us boycott BP until the company has halted the catastrophe, resolved the ecological damage and social impact and assumed responsibility for all long-term damages! Let us boycott BP until the accountable executives and the large financial holders behind them have been punished and have payed for all losses for which they were responsible!

Am Freitag, 20. August, hat am Superior Court of the District of Columbia, dem Kammergericht von Washington DC, die Verhandlung gegen Diane Wilson stattgefunden. Während die Ölkatastrophe im Golf von Mexiko keine nennenswerten Auswirkungen auf die verantwortlichen BP-Manager hat, wurde die Preisträgerin des Internationalen ethecon Blue Planet Award 2006 für ihren Protest gegen BP zu fast zweieinhalb Jahre Haft verurteilt.
Für ihre friedlichen Protestaktionen während einer Ausschuss-Sitzung des US-Senats und der Anhörung des BP-Geschäftsführers Tony Hayward wurde die Garnelenfischerin Diane Wilson zu insgesamt 840 Tage Haft verurteilt. Bei dem Gerichtstermin am Freitag hat die Staatsanwaltschaft darauf verzichtet, sie tatsächlich ins Gefängnis zu schicken. Voraussetzung dafür ist jedoch, dass sie ein Jahr lang nicht verhaftet wird - und zwar nirgendwo. Darüber hinaus wird sie für 9 Monate aus Washington verbannt, sie darf den Sitz der Regierung in dieser Zeit nicht betreten. Damit sind weitere Protestaktionen in der Hauptstadt für sie unmöglich geworden. Für die Umwelt- und Politaktivistin ist das keine einfache Bedingung.
Und alles nur, weil sich Diane Wilson in einer öffentlichen Sitzung des Energie-Ausschusses im US-Senat mit (nachgemachtem) Öl übergoss, um gegen die Blockade eines Gesetzentwurfs zu protestieren, mit dem die Haftungsbeschränkung von Öl-Firmen aufgehoben werden sollte. Zum anderen forderte sie bei der Kongress-Anhörung des BP-Chefs Hayward mit schwarz verschmierten Händen und Gesicht lautstark dessen strafrechtliche Verfolgung.
Angesichts der Tatsache, dass sie ihre Stimme nicht mehr in Washington erheben dürfe, erklärte Diane Wilson: "Wenn mir das Wort verboten wird, dann werde ich mir anders Gehör verschaffen. Mit einem Hungerstreik." Als Mitgründerin von Copepink, einer Frauenorganisation für Frieden, soziale Gerechtigkeit und Ökologie, wird sie mit einem Hungerstreik für die Beendigung der Tiefseebohrungen eintreten. Sie fordert ein Gesetz, das die Haftungsbegrenzungen für Öl-Firmen aufhebt und sie für sämtliche von ihnen verursachten Schäden verantwortlich macht. Diane Wilson wird ihren Hungerstreik im Rahmen einer bereits feststehenden Groß-Demonstration auf Washington am 3./4. September offiziell beginnen.
"ethecon - Stiftung Ethik & Ökonomie" betrachtet die gewaltlosen Protestaktionen der Preisträgerin als Teil ihres Rechts auf freie Meinungsäußerung. Axel Köhler-Schnura, Vorstand von ethecon, ist fassungslos über das Ergebnis der Gerichtsverhandlung: "Der BP-Konzern hat mit seiner rücksichtslosen Profitgier den Tod von elf Menschen und eine der schlimmsten Umweltkatastrophen aller Zeiten verschuldet. Statt die Schuldigen zu bestrafen, stellt sich der Staat auf die Seite der Konzerne und macht deren Kritiker mundtot. Das ist eine Rückkehr zum ,Business as usual'. Aus dem Desaster gelernt hat niemand."
Diane Wilson wurde im Jahr 2006 für ihren engagierten Einsatz zur Rettung des Blauen Planeten von der Stiftung ethecon mit dem internationalen Blue Planet Award 2006 ausgezeichnet. Die Fischerin und Mutter von fünf Kindern kämpft seit Jahrzehnten gegen die Zerstörung eines der artenreichsten Biotope der Erde, den Golf von Mexiko.

El viernes, 20 de agosto, ha tenido lugar en la Superior Court of the District of Columbia (Corte Superior del Distrito de Columbia), juzgado de primera instancia del estado federado Washington DC, la sesión judicial contra Diane Wilson. Mientras la catástrofe petrolera en el Golfo de México no tiene ningún impacto jurídico considerable para los gerentes responsables del consorcio BP, la portadora del premio internacional de Ethecon "Blue Planet Award 2006" ("Premio Planeta Azul 2006") ha sido condenada a casi dos años y medio de encarcelamiento por su protesta contra el BP.
Por sus acciones pacíficas de protesta durante una reunión de un Comité del Senado de los EE.UU. así como durante la interrogación del gerente del BP Tony Hayward, la pescadora de camarones Diane Wilson ha sido condenada a 840 días de cárcel por lo total. Luego de la sesión del juzgado el viernes, el procurador renunció a mandarla de hecho en la prisión. Pero la premisa para aquello es que ella no llegue a ser detenida durante un año, y eso en ninguna parte. Además, está rechazada desde Washington por el período de 9 meses, durante este tiempo no tiene derecho de pisar las oficinas del gobierno. Así, las nuevas acciones de protesta en la capital se vuelven imposibles para ella. Para la militante del movimiento político y ambientalista no es una condición fácil a cumplir.
Y todo eso sucede sólo porque durante una reunión pública del Comité por la Energía del Senado de los EE.UU., Diane Wilson se empapó de petróleo (artificial) para protestar contra el bloqueo de un proyecto de la ley con el cual el límite de la responsabilidad material de las compañías petroleras tenía que ser anulado. Además, en la interrogación del gerente del BP Hayward ante el Congreso estadounidense, ella reivindicó en voz alta y con cara y manos pintadas de negro la persecución jurídica de aquel.
Frente al hecho que entonces ella no puede más levantar su voz de protesta en Washington, declaró Diane Wilson: "Si me prohiben el hablar, voy a hacerme oír de otra manera. Con una huelga de hambre". En calidad de co-fundadora de "Code Pink", organización feminista por la paz, la justicia social y la ecología, va a entrar en huelga de hambre para alcanzar el fin de perforaciones oceánicas para la extracción del petróleo. Ella reivindica una ley que anule los límites de responsabilidad material de compañías petroleras y las haga reembolsar todos los daños causados por ellas. Diane Wilson empezará oficialmente su huelga de hambre en el cuadro de una manifestación marcha multitudinaria hacia Washington ya fijada el 3-4 de septiembre.
"Ethecon - Fundación para Ética y Economía" considera que las acciones pacíficas de protesta por parte de la portadora del premio pertenecen a su derecho de expresión libre de la opinión. Axel Köhler-Schnura, presidente de la dirección de "Ethecon - Fundación para Ética y Economía", está consternado sobre la sentencia del juzgado: "Por su codicia despiadada de ganancias, el consorcio BP ha provocado la muerte de once personas y una de las mayores catástrofes ambientales de todas las épocas. En vez de sancionar a los culpables, el Estado se pone al lado de los consorcios y hace tapar la boca a los críticos de aquellos. Así regresa hacia el "Business as usual". Nadie ha sacado conclusiones debidas desde el desastre".
Diane Wilson ha sido condecorada en el año 2006 con el premio internacional Blue Planet Award 2006 por su aporte abnegado y ejemplar en la salvación del Planeta Azul. La pescadora y madre de cinco hijos está luchando desde hace decenios contra el desvaste de uno los biotopos con el nombre máximo de especies en el mundo, el Golfo de México.

On Friday, August 20, Diane Wilson's hearing took place at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia in Washington. While the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico seems to have no repercussions on the managers of BP responsible for it, the International ethecon Blue Planet Awardee 2006, Diane Wilson, was threatened with three charges and a possible two and a half years in prison because of her protest against BP.
In all, shrimper Diane Wilson was facing 840 days in prison for her peaceful protest actions during a Committee hearing in the US Senate and the hearing of BP CEO Tony Hayward. During her court hearing on Friday, the judge refrained from sending her to jail - on the condition that she does not get arrested for a 9 months, anywhere in the United States. Not an easy condition for the environmental and political activist. On top of that, she is banned from the US capitol grounds, which makes further protest actions in the capitol impossible for her.
There were two reasons for this court hearing. One was a Senate Energy Committee hearing, during which Diane Wilson poured fake oil on herself in order to protest the blocking of a bill that was supposed to lift the oil companies' liability cap (the Big Oil Bailout Prevention Act). The other reason was her demanding, with her hands and face covered in black fake oil, that BP CEO Hayward should be charged with a crime. This happened during Hayward's hearing by members of the US Congress.
Wilson stated that since she cannot speak on the Capitol grounds or any of the Senate or House committee rooms, she will speak with a different voice. As a cofounder of CodePink, a grassroots activist group of women concerned about peace, social and environmental justice, she will begin a hungerstrike to raise consciousness to end offshore drilling and to push a legislative bill to lift the liability cap on oil companies, making them pay the full damages. In other words, the polluter pays. Wilson plans to officially announce the hungerstrike at a labor day rally, Spill into Washington, on September 3-4.

Axel Köhler-Schnura, chairman of the foundation's board, is shocked by the outcome of the court hearing: "The BP company has caused the death of eleven people and one of the worst environmental disasters of all times with its reckless greed for profit. Instead of punishing the culprits, the govenment has sided with the corporations and muzzles their critics. Back to ,business as usual'. No-one has learned from the disaster."
In 2006, Diane Wilson was presented with the International ethecon Blue Planet Award 2006 for her courageous effort to save the Blue Planet.
