LaTeX error message: TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [input stack size=5000] $f'$

LaTeX error message: TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [input stack size=5000] $f'$

Looks like there are so many causes to this error messages. First, I tried several suggestions on internet, but none of them work for my case. Somehow, the solution is as simple as UF dissertation template does not work with prime " ' " when used in math mode, for instance $f'$. Therefore, I had to use $\acute{f}$ instead. Note that $f'$ works will all template in the world including IEEETran.
