PHOTOMONTAGE

Photomontage: The technique or process of making a new picture by assembling pieces of photographs

into an illusion or surreal subject. Check out the powerpoint ->

Activity 1: Select subject matter you would like to study. Take at least 20 images of the same subject matter from the same or slightly different angles over a 24 hour time period. Taking one photo every hour will naturally make the light change. This is a study of how light changes throughout the day and night. It is also a perception study of how we see objects and from different angles. You may use a camera or your cell phone to capture the images.

Digital imaging students: Take a series of images of an object changing the light on purpose by manipulating the shutter speed, adding studio light, or changing the exposure value found in the menu.

Activity 2: Capture 20 images of at least 8 different people (d.i. family members), then select pieces of each portrait to create a whole new face. If you should choose family members, it might be interesting to see what combining those faces would look like.

Assemble the photographs on a PhotoShop or on a PowerPoint slide creating a new image from all of the images you capture. Start with one as the base image and then crop the additional images and create a puzzle "like" image by overlapping, turning and re-sizing the new composition. The final image does not have to fit squarely on the page.
