MOVE IN CLOSE / PORTRAIT WITH HAND

Move in close to your subject matter.

Some individuals get uncomfortable about photographers moving in too close, so use your zoom so they don't know how close you really are. Your goal is to fill the picture frame with the subject area you are photographing. Getting Up close can reveal a great deal, but remember, don't get so close that your image becomes blurry.

  • Take 20-25 images of individuals. You will be selecting your top three images. The images must contain the following elements:
    • All images must be open composition, that means that the subject fills the frame and travels off the page.
    • All images must only include head and shoulders only with at least one other object which may include your hand, a flower, pencil, or some appealing object.
    • Experiment with light using your flash to manipulate the light.
    • The subject can only look at the camera no more than five (10) times.
    • Watch for background distractions
    • Change your angle (from above or below, but DON'T TILT YOUR CAMERA)
    • Focus on the subject
    • Be a camera director by positioning your model.
      • turn your shoulders
      • turn your head
      • move toward the light
    • Show some personality and emotion.
    • Have fun
