WARHOL PROJECT

The goal of this unit is to expand students use of the tools and options within the Photoshop program as they compare the images created by Warhol in the 1960's and see how technology has changed throughout time.

Objectives: Students will learn to:

1. Identify Andy Warhol’s Artwork

2. Manipulate personal images of themselves within the Photoshop program.

3. Compare the technology of the 1960's to today's technology.

4. Create a self-portrait cartoon.

Motivation:

1. Students will photograph one dozen self-portraits

2. Look at the artwork of Andy Warhol

a. Identified the subject matter Warhol used within his work.

i. Popular culture: flowers, the cow in Boarden’s milk, Campbell soup, Pop artists; Michael Jackson and Marilyn Monroe.

ii. Printmaking medium of screen printing. Screen printing example

b. Students will compare the pop culture of yesterday and compare that to today's subject matter.

c. Students are the celebrities, take photos of them to recreate.

3. Students will select 8 or 9 images of themselves as their subject matter

a. Alter those images by adjusting the hue and saturation or contrast and brightness in the Image and adjustments on the menu bar.

b. Make selections with the magic wand or lasso tool, then paint that selection in a different color on a different layer making sure to adjust the opacity.

c. Make selections in the filters menu making sure the selections are not cliche.

d. Images will be organized on a grid in order to make sure they are the same size and in a 3x3 or 2x4 format.

e. images may be organized first and layers created to manipulate each layer.

4. Students will select one image of themselves to cartoon.
