EDITORIAL

Welcome to this issue of the Journal of Technology for ELT. The significant feature of our journal is the promotion of artcles dealing with the use of technology effectively and efficiently in English language teaching. In the present issue there are five papers dealing with several aspects of using the latest technology in teaching English as a second language. Chinta Praveen Kumar in his paper on Critical Assessment of ELT through Self Instructional Material through CALL & Smart English Laboratory – Features and Specifications focuses on the pedagogical questions that teachers should have in mind in using computers in the class room. In the paper E – Resources for Cultivating Language Proficiency via Computer Assisted Instruction, Sr. J. Jeya Rani and Dr G. Rexlin Jose speak on how e- resources help to promote language proficiency in the field of the computer assisted instruction. Kalpesh V. Patel in Interactive IWb Technology in Enhancing Reading Skill in English Language Learning investigates the way in which IWB makes students read more. In the paper Podcasting: A Means to Teach ESL, Amna Shamim speaks about improving the English proficiency of Indian students through the use of podcasting. The final paper on E-Learning: WEBQUESTS Dr. Revathi Viswanathan and Dr. S. Rajagopalan explain the various steps involved in using web quests as a teaching technique in the classroom.
