Use of E-resources for Teaching

and Learning English

Abstract

English is a global language .Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru said that it is a window to the modern world. English is an international language, spoken in many countries both as a native and as a second or foreign language. It is taught in the schools in almost every country on this earth. It is a living and vibrant language spoken by over 300 million people as their native language. Millions more speak it as an additional language. It is a language of knowledge & in India we use this language from the practical point of view. In many states students are poor in learning of English. Teachers should use innovative practices, methods to make the teaching –learning process joyful. This is an age of technology in every aspect of our life technology has occupied a great position .For the teaching learning of English we can use various e-resources. In the present paper such e-resources are introduced.

Introduction

Teaching of a foreign language is a big challenge before the teachers .Teaching of English is really a big task for the teachers who teach English subject in Indian scenario because there is a lot of impact of mother tongue on the students and teachers too. One more thing is that there is a phobia among the students to learn a foreign language. 21st century is an age of technology and use of technology can make the teaching-learning of English effective. There are various- resources available which we can use for the teaching –learning of English.

1) Dictionary

Many new models of mobile phones gives access to the Dictionary, even you can download the dictionary which you like e.g. English to Marathi, Marathi to English and so on. Besides the meaning such dictionaries also provide accurate pronunciation of the word .Many times teachers also don’t know the accurate pronunciation of a particular word so such type of dictionary is very useful for the teachers and students. Moreover anytime quickly you can search the meaning of a word and can save your time.

2) Microsoft Encarta

Microsoft a well known software production company has produced learning resources also and Encarta is one of that the information about various branches of study has been given .Literary information, literary works contribution of English authors are provided in a very simple language.
