Teach Methods

Welcome to my Community College Technical Class - my methods are the same for all classes I teach:Every semester is exciting - because it is the first time I teach a class at that point in the Internet/Web/Technology. Each time I teach a class it is new - new versions, new hardware, new software, new capabilities, new ideas. We apply the class to what is available on the Web. I will be teaching you to use products, read documentation and integrate tools into the way you work. During each week there will be reading/researching assignments, working in Moodle Forums, and practicing how to make the web work for us.

Each session will have exercises to help you learn new tools, exchange ideas with classmates, and apply the tools to Home, Family, Work & Community.

The types of activities I use to teach this course or really any course are:

CLASS WEBSITE

  • Each week I post/update the Assignments on the Class Web Site (each class will have its own links on https://sites.google.com/site/jilmactraining .

    • From the Assignments TAB on the Left Nav - each week/assignment is numbered.

    • The assignment overview outlines the week & allows each student to earn 5 points per week/assignment towards the final grade.

STUDENT WEBSITES - Each week the student will post their work on their Websites which can include: Google Web Site, ClassWeb or Shared Web Hosting, etc, it depends on the class you are taking.

WORKSHOPS - Each week we will be learning in a Workshop.

    • on-Ground Classes..it will be the 2nd half of class These are very important - so if you can't make it - you should come in early or stay late to catch up.

    • on-Line Classes ..... JilMac will post Recordings to help explain concepts for each assignment. Those taking on-Ground classes are encouraged to watch RECORDings also.

    • hybrid Classes ....... refer to your weekly Assignment Word Document file

WEEKLY RESEARCH ASSIGNMENTS - Each week/assignment, students will research a subject and post their findings into their Web Site.

BACKUP - each week the student is assigned to back up their weekly files into Google Sites/Apps or backup method of their choice

MIDTERM PROJECT OUTLINE - At Midterm students are asked to create an outline of the project they plan to create for the class. Please NOTE: Midterm is dependant on the length of a course.

MIDTERM GRADES - Mid Term grades are given after the Project Outline is submitted.

FINAL PROJECT - A Final Project of the Students Selection, and approved by the instructor is due the last week of class. This is usually a Web Site which utilizes many of the tools we learned over the semester.

FINAL GRADE - is awarded from the work done each week, the Project outline, The Final Project/Web Site, and Extra Credit Earned

CODE OF CONDUCT

CCV is committed to providing a healthy, safe, and respectful teaching and learning environment. All members of CCV are responsible for conducting themselves in a manner that contributes positively to the shared college community. POLICIES

Outlined below are those policies that often impact students' health, safety, and privacy. For a more complete list of policies, consult the public website: http://www.ccv.edu/policy

EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

CCV does not employ a campus security force, but fosters a close relationship with local police departments. Incidents that occur at a CCV academic center, and may be criminal in nature, are reported promptly, for investigation by the local law enforcement authority. The CCV community is notified of emergency situations by posting alerts at the affected center, on the CCV website and by emailing the college community. In addition, emergency notifications will also include voice and text messages to the phone numbers that are provided to us. For guidelines on how to be safe and what to do if you think you are the victim of a crime, consult the Safety and Security page on the public website: http://www.ccv.edu/safety

In case of a college emergency, information will be posted and updated online at http://www.ccv.edu/emergency/index.html.

The Crime Awareness and College Security policy further addresses safety and security, hate crime reporting, emergency response and evacuation procedures, and timely warnings: http://www.vsc.edu/CCV_Public/Crime%20Awareness%20and%20College%20Security%20CCV%20Policy.pdf

Printing at a CCV Lab

Reducing paper and toner consumption is good for the environment and saves the college money, which in turn, aids in our efforts to keep student tuition and fees the lowest in Vermont. More information about this initiative can be found at: http://www.vsc.edu/CCV_Public/PapercutStudentInfo.pdf
