Course Description:

This course introduces the many applications that enhance the world of multimedia and the web, as well as the technological decisions that are needed to deploy them. Students will learn how various tools are used to create a rich, dynamic audio/visual experience for users in many different formats. Emphasis is given to understanding current, new and emerging technologies and the impact they have on web-based media. Students enrolling in the course should have basic computer skills.

Essential Objectives:

1. Identify the major concepts, tools, techniques and methods of using multimedia applications on the Internet.

2. Discuss the importance of a file management system and apply file management principles.

3. Describe the current trends and issues of the Internet's multimedia applications.

4. Analyze the strengths, weaknesses, access issues and suitable applications of various file types.

5. Investigate HTML, photo, image, voice, video, podcast and slideshow applications.

6. Examine the similarities and differences between various file applications.

7. Investigate the Internet's social network applications: blogging, wikis, bookmarking and tagging.

8. Compare and contrast static and dynamic web applications.

9. Demonstrate the appropriate and ethical use of various web applications.

10. Discuss legal and ethical issues related to computers and information processing, including copyright infringement and plagiarism.

11. Identify and understand the appropriate uses and integration of web media in the work and college environment.
