Custodians of Magic

This reputation can be started at level 11. In order to gather Custodians of Magic reputation points, you need to enter a special instance called the Ivmuar Manuscript Treasury Trove (henceforth just called "The Library"). It is available every three days and open for 12 hurs.

To get to the Library, you need to visit Ulvarno in White Castle and buy a Teleport in Ivmuar Scroll from him for a 5g . This scroll has a lifetime of 24 hours, and if you use it in White Castle (it only works there), you are transported to a location called Caves of Awareness:

14:01 You barely finish uttering the final word of the spell when you feel your body start to dissolve. The next instant you find yourself in a completely different place: at the doorstep of the Ivmuar Manuscript Treasury Trove.

The location gives the following options in the location navigation list:

- Return to White Castle

- Lower Level Ivmuar (this is for reputation 0-1000)

- Medium Level Ivmuar (this is for reputation 1000-2000)

- Upper Level Ivmuar (this is for reputation 2000-3000)

Note: The monster levels and hit points in this guide refer to the "Lower Level Ivmuar".

Basically, there are two different ways to gain Custodians of Magic reputation points:

    • Kill the Troll [Lvl 12, 9600 hp] -- a strong boss monster at the end of the Library -- each time you kill the Troll, you gain 20 rep.

    • Turn in special Manuscripts with Barachmung in White Castle, each manuscript will let you gain 10 rep.

About the Treasury Trove / Library

There are three possible layouts for each level of the Library. Thus, each time you enter the Library, it will probably look a bit different than the visit before.

All Layouts have in common that you start in an entrance room, called "Ivmuar Manuscript Treasury Trove". Then you walk through the library (with Supervisors [Lvl 11, 6500 hp] in the hunt screen); these rooms are called "Manuscript Labyrinth", but it really is not a labyrinth: You either advance or go back, there are no confusing teleports and crossroads at all. Eventually, you will hit the last room, called "Manuscript Sanctuary". This location only has the Troll [Lvl 12, 9600 hp] in the hunt screen.

There are some stashes on the way and in the final room, where Apocryphal Kroffdors Manuscripts may be hidden.

The first variety of the Library setup has a total of 5 locations/rooms and houses one of these Manuscripts

The second variety of the Library setup has a total of 7 locations/rooms and houses two of these Manuscripts

The third variety of the Library setup has a total of 8 locations/rooms and houses three of these Manuscripts

Some stashes might be empty, some stashes are protected by a Faceless Guard [Lvl 11, 6300 hp] -- but not all of these guarded stashes also contain a Manuscript.

The Manuscripts

Having collected those Manuscripts from the Library stashes does not guarantee you a rep increase. In order to decipher the Manuscripts, you need to buy a Truth Awareness Potion for 3g from Ulvarno for each single Manuscript. Using the Truth Awareness potion on a grey Manuscript will either give you:

11:49 Received: 5000 experience, Other Dialects Manuscript Kroffdors 1 pcs. Removed:Truth Awareness Potion 1 pcs.

or this message:

11:50 You let a drop of the developing reagent fall on the manuscripts, but so miserable was their condition that they immediately crumble to dust.

The success rate seems to be a slightly better than 50%. A "good" potion yields a manuscript that gives 10 reputation points.

Hand in your "good" Manuscripts at Barachmung (White Castle). He also accepts higher level manuscripts:

Manuscript

Used up to rep

Grey Manuscript

500

Green Manuscript

1000

Blue Manuscript

2000

Purple

3000

Because of the uncertain outcome of using the Truth Awareness Potion, many players do not bother collecting the "raw" undeciphered manuscripts and concentrate on only killing the Troll (see below). However, you can buy all sorts of deciphered, "good" manuscripts in the occasional resource fairs and hand them in -- this might run much cheaper than laboring to get undeciphered manuscripts and perhaps even fail at getting a good one after going through all the pains to obtain them.

The Troll

The undisputed "boss" in this instance is the Troll [Lvl 12, 9600 hp] (stats for the lowest level dungeon). He is located in the last room/location of this instance, called "Manuscript Sanctuary". Defeating the Troll will give you 20 reputation points each time.

The Troll has the following skills/spells/curses:

Ritual Dance of Fear (3 uses) -- This effect puts you in a state of fear in which you cannot use magic for 2 turns; when you get hit by this, just switch to Melee stance.

Fury (up to 10 uses) -- Whenever the Troll casts this effect on himself, he does additional damage as well as regenerates. Remove this nasty effect quickly by casting a Pacifist Pollen on the Troll; the Pollen works just like a Dispell scroll for this effect!

Fetid Breath (no limitation in uses) -- Whenever the Troll casts this on you, your next two or three attacks are considerably weaker. This effect can be dispelled with a Scroll of Antidote. However, if you do not have that many slots in your belt, you could decide against equipping Antidotes at all in favor of Life. That way, you deal a little less damage a few times; but perhaps a slot with Life is more important to survive.

The Pacifist Pollen can be gathered by killing the Supervisors [Lvl 11, 6500 hp]. You can find them in the hunt screens of all locations in the Library (except the entrance and the final room with the Troll). Each Supervisor drops one Pollen per kill with 100%.

Recommendation:

After having gathered enough Pacifist Pollen (10 pcs), go to the end of the Library, the "Manuscript Sanctuary". Find the Troll in the hunt screen. Your belt should have the same setup as for strong boss monsters. It should typically look like this:

  • Giant

  • Spirit

  • Atshi

  • Mana (scrolls or pots, 1-2 slots)

  • Pacifist Pollen (10 pcs)

  • Scroll of Antidote (optional)

  • Scroll of Retribution (optional, helpful to let the troll kill himself)

  • Lifes

It is almost impossible to kill the troll without the Pacifist Pollen to remove the Fury.

The troll doesn't alway use the 10 Fury spells. Any unused Pacifist Pollen can be frozen in the Repository in your estate.
