VBS

Vacation Bible School is an icon of Summer and Childhood for many people! Bible stories, songs, games and crafts center around a fun theme and teach valuable life-lessons! Friendships and memories are made at VBS! Summer just wouldn't be summer without it!

At Hubbard Church of the Nazarene, we generally have an evening VBS, from 6-8:30 PM, Monday through Friday. This enables parents who work days to accompany their children to VBS, and also allows VBS workers who hold day jobs to participate in this awesome ministry opportunity. VBS is typically for children in grades K-6th.

When you register your child for VBS, they will be assigned a group with a thematic designation-for instance, if the theme is ocean related, there may be a shark group, an octopus group, and so on. Children are not divided by age or grade, since many children bring friends, relatives and/or neighbors who may be not be their same age but who may wish to remain with them. This also promotes healthy socialization between age groups. All the children meet together in the sanctuary for an opening, and each group is seated with an adult leader. These groups then rotate through the various sites where they hear a story, sing songs, do crafts, play games, learn Bible verses, and have a snack. At the end of the rotation, all the children meet back in the sanctuary again for closing.

An important part of VBS is the missionary outreach project. Each year the church selects a project for the children to help someone in need. Past projects have included digging a well for a village in Africa, bicycles for missionary transportation, and translating Bible Quizzing material into various languages (Portuguese, Spanish, Korean and French). This helps the children focus on doing something for others. The VBS staff create visuals and have a contest to encourage the children to participate in this missionary outreach.
