Hubbard Church of the Nazarene participates in many ministries in our community that are organized by others. From international organizations to local individuals, we join readily with others who are already doing a good work, and add our efforts to theirs. Some such ministries are:
Remember Our Children: Organized by parents who have lost children, this ministry raises funds to help other children with various needs. Remember Our Children held an event at St. Pat's, which was advertised and promoted at Hubbard Church of the Nazarene. Many members attended and supported this effort. You can read about this event in The Vindicator here: Event Fund Memorial Scholarships
Food Kitchen: The Dorothy Day Food Kitchen in Youngstown is run by Catholic nuns, and serves meals to needy people. Hubbard Church of the Nazarene supports this effort by promoting participation and encouraging members to donate their time in this way.
Angel Tree: Every Christmas Hubbard Church of the Nazarene participates in Angel Tree ministries, which is a program to minister to children of inmates and their families. For more information on Angel Tree, see our Angel Tree page.
Salvation Army Red Kettle: Hubbard Church of the Nazarene, along with others in the community, helps to man the kettle and ring that bell at Devine's Shop and Save in Hubbard each holiday season. To read about the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign, see their write-up here.
30-Hour Famine: Every year World Vision organizes a campaign to raise awareness of hunger and raise funds for needy and starving peoples. The 30-Hour Famine is a time of fasting lasting 30 hours, and filled with activities such as food drives, work in soup kitchens, cleaning and renovation projects, and other community service activities. Typically local churches organize their famines together and pool efforts and manpower. This activity is open to all, but is strong among the youth. Participants ask friends and neighbors for sponsorship, and spend the night in one of the participating churches together, working together as well as participating in fun activities, and breaking their fast at the end with a fellowship meal. For more information on 30-Hour Famine internationally, see 30-Hour Famine.
National Day of Prayer: The National day of Prayer is a national organization which encourages collective prayer concentrated on one day. Locally, it is observed with cooperative, continuous scripture reading and prayer for 24 on the courthouse steps. Hubbard Church of the Nazarene is proud to be a supporter an our members are regular volunteers. Click here to read about Ohio's National Day of Prayer, the first Thursday every May.
