The Fentress-Black House - 1849

Also known as the Manor House, this Colonial style home was constructed in an L-shaped back with the dining room and kitchen at the end of the L, unusual for the times when it was designed.

Judge James Fentress, the original builder, served as Solicitor General for the Illinois Central Railroad. Fentress's daughter Sally was married at the home and began her honeymoon by walking along a scarlet cloth trail to one of the trains that had stopped where the tracks ran along the back side of the property.
