For the 4.5 of you who visited this website over the years or those who know me personally began to notice as far back as 2015, I began to get more grey hairs in my mustache and beard as I got older. It's a rather natural thing which I never cared about. However, when I was working at Tulane University, I'd be in meetings with this one gentleman who clearly had an issue with his greying facial hairs. He used some form of dye to darken his goatee hairs. The problem was that he didn't apply the stuff daily or maybe it just grew too fast because every time I saw him, he had jet black hairs but all of his roots were white making it very obvious that he had dyed it. It made me laugh whenever I saw this guy.
In April of 2025, I was doing some grocery shopping and saw a box of Just for Men facial hair dye. I thought it would be funny to try this stuff and amuse my staff. They too had noticed the person who dyed his hair and thought it was pretty funny. I thought I'd walk around acting like that guy for the day.
The instructions were pretty simple. The stuff came in two different tubes which you mixed together and then applied with a brush, which was included. I got up one morning and decided to do it. I mixed the stuff together and then started putting in on my hairs. The brush was rather wide and some of the stuff got on my face also. No big deal, however, I started to notice that my face was getting dark where the stuff had touched my skin.
It was pretty hilarious as I looked like the Joker with a painted-on smile. I immediately washed the stuff off before it had a chance to set up. It turns out that this dye is nothing more than the stuff used in a henna tattoo. Had I let the stuff stay any longer, I would have been walking around with a black Joker smile for the next 2 weeks.
I went back to try it again, being careful to just hit the hairs this time. I didn't let it stay on too long for fear of being stuck looking like that guy. Here is what my face looked like before. Here is what it looked like with the stuff setting up. Here it is after.
When asked why I did it, I could only respond that sometimes I do silly stuff.
