Do NOT buy from Icon Health and Fitness!!

As many of you know, I run regularly. That should never be confused with thinking that I like running. I do not. It's strictly a means to an end. Thus, I must do everything that I can to ensure that I don't miss out. It's so easy for me to come up with an excuse not to go. That's why I keep and use a treadmill in the house. If it's too hot or too cold or too windy, I might be less inclined to run so a treadmill is the perfect compromise. It is rather boring but better than nothing.

Over the last few years, I've managed to break the running board on three treadmills. That constant pounding in the same general area just wears these things out. Thus, in 2009 when I was looking for my fourth treadmill, I wanted one that had some durability. That's when I came across the website for Smooth Fitness (https://www.smoothfitness.com/) products. At the time, the website advertised that all of their equipment came with a lifetime guarantee on parts and a two year warranty on labor costs. I thought I had finally found the product for me. It was more expensive but I felt it would be worth it if I didn't need to worry about the running board cracking again. I actually encouraged others to buy from SmoothFitness.

In March of 2016, the running board on this thing cracked. On the good side, it did last for 7 years before giving out. That was way longer than the others. I am amazed that I crack through these things. I called the number on the website of SmoothFitness.com to get them to send out a new board. After all, I had a life time warranty on the equipment. Well, apparently, Smoothfitness was sold to Icon Health and Fitness.

When one company buys another it is agreed that they are purchasing the assets (inventory, good name, technology) of the company but also the liabilities of that company also (warranties, pending legal action, etc). Well, apparently no one told Icon Health and Fitness that. They are the reason that business gets a bad rep.

Never, never, never buy anything from this company.
