The first residents of Mount Pleasant were Manx farmers who arrived in 1826. After the Manx farmers came Germans, Czechs, Russians, Jews and Italians. Mount Pleasant also had African-Americans amongst its earliest citizens. It remained a rural area until 1921 when Joseph Krizek bought 20 acres southwest of Kinsman. They plotted streets and planted 248 maple trees along Bartlett Street. The area got its name from the beauty of these trees.
