Edgewater park was purchased in 1894 by Jacob Perkins. This land became Perkins Beach and Edgewater Park. The park included bathhouses, baseball diamonds and picnic and playground areas. It also contains the Edgewater Yacht Club and the Edgewater Lagoon. Much of the park was destroyed by construction of the Shoreway. In 1978 the park became part of the Lakefront State Park. There are now fishing platforms, a bathing beach, a boat-launching ramp and the Edgewater Yacht Club and Edgewater Marina. Back in the day, this area was home to the wealthy people of the west side. The Children's Aid Society was located at 10427 Detroit, and the Granada Theater was at 11621 Detroit Ave. This neighborhood was also home to the Eliza Jennings Home and the White Chewing Gum Co.
