The City of Cleveland annexed the Village of West Park in 1923. It was originally a part of Rockport Township. West Park included Jefferson, Kamm's Corners, Riverside and Puritas-Longmead. Development in Jefferson and West Park increased considerably when the interurban service connecting downtown Cleveland to the area occurred in the 1900-1920 timeframe, via Lorain Avenue. The Cleveland Electric Railway Company extended a streetcar line to West 117th Street and finally to Kamm's Corners in 1923.
