Glenville was incorporated as a village on October 4, 1870 and was annexed to Cleveland in 1905. It was named for its shady thick glens. In the 1880's, it was a summer resort for wealthy families of Cleveland. It contains Rockefeller Park Cultural Gardens and the Rockefeller Park Greenhouse. Later immigrants were from Scotland, Ireland and England. The Glenville Race Track was built in 1870 at St. Clair and E. 88th Street.
