August, 2011 update:
The trap door that houses the cables to raise and lower the garage door in the event of a power outage has been secured with a padlock that will open with your "everything" key. Instructions on how to open the door are on bulletin boards in the mail room and near the garage. A list of people who know how to open the garage door has been sent out previously. It is a two person job so if you have to open the door and the electricity is out, do it with a friend.

Given the following concerns:
Security: the original garage doors cannot be locked
Vulnerability: the narrow (8 feet each) doors are prone to all too frequent encounters with vehicles
Maintenance: two doors/controls are twice as expensive to maintain as one
Over the course of meetings in 2009 the board developed a proposal to replace the original two 8-foot garage door configuration with a single 12-foot garage door. The board worked directly with Bruce Comen (Hofeller Co.), who coordinated with Collins Overhead Door (equipment supplier/installer) and Belcastro Brothers (general contractor). (Bob Cowherd)
