Laptop Log

Our school needs a nicer looking and more functional laptop checkout log. If you've seen it (in our room, for example), you'll know what I mean. The present version can be used as a starting point, but there is a wish list for the improved version. Exactly how these features should appear is up to you. The best looking and/or most functional product will be determined by the front office staff and will be put to use. It is definitely not this example that your teacher put together to illustrate some of the technical requirements. The winner's name(s) or the class name will be added to the result for everyone who walks past the front desk to see.

Wish List

    • The header for the laptop number (however it is worded) should appear in a single box/cell.

    • The form should be two sided to save paper.

    • In addition to time out there should be the corresponding time in so that we don't have to cross out names.

    • The temporary whereabouts (perhaps room number, class, or teacher) of the laptop should be recorded in case someone needs to come look for it.

Don't settle just for fulfilling these wishes. You can do better than your teacher's example. Go for gold.

Instructions

This is an individual assignment, so each student should create and submit a document. The first three wishes must be satisfied and the example document does this. The last is also required, but how to do this is not exemplified.

    1. The document must be named LaptopLog.doc and be formatted for version 2003 or below to be compatible with the front office computers.

    2. We are practicing tables and they make sense for this assignment. There must be one in the document.

    3. All rows of the table except possibly for header rows should be the same height.

    4. The header row must appear on both front and back of the page so that students know what to write where.

    5. Something (border, background, etc.) of the header row should be different from other rows in addition to it containing the table header.

    6. Some of the columns should have different widths that depend on how much space is needed for the recorded information.

    7. Width and height of the page should be used up.

    8. A placeholder for the document's author (or eventual authors) must be indicated. Don't put your real name there, however, since the selection of best form should be anonymous.

    9. All four wish list items must be granted.

Delivery

Email your files or transfer them by USB drive. These will be graded in our classroom first, then printed for your inspection, and lastly delivered to the front office staff for selection. Some modifications may be subsequently requested.

Grading

Each of the above instructions except the last is worth a point. The last has four items and is therefore worth four points.
