Business Card

Business cards are for business, but that's not all. They can also be used as visiting or calling cards. The information they contain is fairly standardized and is listed under the content requirements. The cards are different sizes in different countries and if you want to print your own, it's very important that the layout of your document match the layout of cards on the paper. A sheet usually holds ten which are then separated at perforations. Because the layout is so sensitive, we will use templates.

Content Requirements

Include the information below on your business card. Add more if you'd like. A company name, for example, is common. You can use your own information for this assignment, because anonymizing 10 cards is cumbersome. We will turn these in during class.

    1. Name

    2. Title, possibly imaginary

    3. Address

    4. Phone number

    5. Email address

    6. Web address, of your future website

    7. Some kind of graphic

Technical Requirements

    1. Base your document on a template. Four are supplied, but you may try others if they are 10 cards to a page. Word will look for templates for you or you can look manually. A template will help ensure that your cards fit correctly between the perforations on paper of different formats. Supplied templates are BusinessCard from Microsoft or Flag, Curly, or Text from Avery. All 10 cards go through the printer at the same time.

    2. Use a graphic, but don't simply reuse the template graphic.

    3. Every card must be the same.

    4. Exactly two colors are allowed and required. This has to do with how they are printed if you get that done professionally.

    5. Multiple font faces or font sizes are a given.

    6. Use at least two kinds of paragraph alignment: for example, center and left, center and right, left and right.

Delivery

This assignment will be delivered by direct file transfer to a computer the teacher has reserved for this purpose. Don't submit your document over the internet.

Grading

Each of the 7 content requirements is worth a point, and each of the 6 technical requirements is worth another. Proper delivery worth 1 point for a total of 14.
