For Excel projects and activities, we are using the newest, 2010 Windows version of the spreadsheet software. When the school year began, the class was using Dell laptops with Microsoft Office Professional 2003 running under Windows XP. The transition from Word to Excel coincided with a transition to new Lenovo laptops with Microsoft Office Professional 2010 running under Windows 7. This means that laptop batteries last throughout the class period, networks remain reliably connected, and many of the compatibility problems disappear. This will allow us to explore Excel much more comfortably and efficiently. Again we will include functionality useful for personal (home), academic (school), and business (work) application. Excel is a capable graphing program, so much of our data will be summarized visually. In addition to investigating the Excel's pre-installed functions, we will also write our own using VBA (Visual Basic for Applications). See the individual projects for exciting details.
