Mr. Alcock started teaching today. We all introducted ourselves aloud, noting our favorite application, least favorite application, and favorite non-application (e.g., hobby).

We introduced ourselves on paper by recording answers to the questions below. The list of applications could be produced by student pairs and lists of over ninety were submitted.

    1. What is your name?

    2. What is your favorite application?

    3. What is your least favorite application?

    4. What is your favorite non-application (e.g., hobby)?

    5. Which operating system do you usually use?

    6. What would you like to do with a computer that you don't know how to yet?

    7. What applications do you use most often?

    8. Which applications are you most interested in learning?

    9. What applications have you heard of?

    10. What have you worked on in class the past two weeks?

There was some debate about the definition of computer application. Some students included what the teacher would consider web apps, and we will try to address those in this class along with the more traditional applications. Our provisional definition of computer application comes from Webopedia.

Application software, also known as an application, is computer software designed to help the user to perform singular or multiple related specific tasks.
