Requirements in (parentheses) are very literal and are meant to ensure some degree of safety on the internet. Follow them very closely. Points will be summarily deducted if instructions are not followed.
Text must indicate that this is a birthday card.
Graphics must reinforce the idea.
The (first) name of the possibly imaginary birthday boy/girl should appear inside. This is a custom card.
Your (first) name should also appear inside: for example, "Happy Birthday from Keith."
Make up a name for your own desktop publishing company and use it on the back.
Indicate that you are the boss/owner/proprietor of the company using your (first) name.
Include a copyright notice on the back.
The card should span four book folded pages.
The first page must be occupied primarily with a graphic of some kind.
Placed over the graphic must be some legible text.
The third page must include at least one short paragraph.
The text should begin with either a drop cap or larger initial letter.
Paragraph alignment should be centered.
The last page should include fine, i.e., smaller font size, print about the card's designer.
Text on the last page must be contained in a text box.
After making sure that the file you send in is anonymized for transport over the internet (by following the guidelines above), you may submit your work. This can be done either via email or direct file transfer with a USB drive.
You can email from a school laptop (more likely during or less likely after class) or from your own laptop (less likely during or more likely after class (e.g., from home)). The teacher will reserve one school laptop in the classroom for emailing in case you aren't working on a school computer with network access. Email your document in Word 2003 (or earlier) format as an attachment to the teacher (kalcock@basistucson.org).
If you prefer, or especially if you do not have internet access in class, copy your document via your USB drive to a laptop the teacher has reserved for this purpose. You will see a link on the desktop to an ITCA folder where you can create your own folder with your name on it. Copy your document to your own folder and the teacher will collect it there.
Each of the 7 content requirements is worth a point, and each of the 8 technical requirements is worth another. Proper delivery as an attached email is worth 1 point. So is the alternate delivery of the document into a folder bearing the student's name on a laptop reserved for that purpose in class. Total possible points for this project is therefore 16.
