Happy New Year!

Before we start in with the new, let's look back at some old times (but in a slightly newfangled way). Long ago we produced a web version of the Our Favorites document with automatic style changing and there is even evidence of that happening: there are exhibits. We were supposed to vote on the best ones, but never got around to it. Now is the time and the voting booth is online, but hold your horses. You will first receive, or rather calculate, a special number that you must use before your vote can be accepted. Consider it to be your voter registration card. We will use Excel for the calculation and instructions will be delivered in class. We will also use Excel to calculate the winners, but not until tomorrow.

Next up is a treasure hunt for various user interface elements in Excel. Find the elements pictured in the printout of the Excel spreadsheet accessible from the link above and then create your own spreadsheet with your own graphics. In the process you will practice taking screen shots with your operating system, adding graphics to a spreadsheet, and potentially printing.

All this fun must have a price. The two Excel projects that we worked on before the vacation are due soon, Wednesday, in fact. Those are the Paycheck and Function Tables projects. Both are written up quite thoroughly in the meantime. Institute your ketchup plan if necessary. You should be staying after school, working over lunch, or coming in early to get them finished, because there will be little more class time dedicated to them.
