Types of Polygons

A polygon is a plane figure that is made by joining the line segments, where each line segment meets exactly two other line segments. The intersection point of two line segments is called the vertex of the polygon.

Observe the following figures:

Here, (i), (iii), and (v) are polygons, but (ii), (iv), and (vi) are not polygons because (ii) is not closed, in (iv) sides of a figure intersect each other at three places, and (vi) is not made of line segments.
