I’ve attached part of an email Hazel Hogarth sent me late last night. It's sad news.
"It is with very great sadness that I inform you of our loss today of my best friend, soulmale and love of my life, Peter Hogarth.
Peter battled Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and won, had a bone marrow transplant and was winning the rejection game with that when his system began to fail due to the many chemicals and treatments.
He passed peacefully at 1:00pm today in Westmead Hospital."
I had quite a lot to do with Peter in the decades after we met again at an ABHS school reunion. There were more long chats than I’d hazard a guess at (all chats with Peter were long, whether you wanted them to be or not!) and they often involved reflections on our shared past. Garrison Keillor said, when his 70 year old brother died, that he had a sense of his past fading ‘there being one less person to remember it with’.
Peter was an intrinsically gentle soul and ‘a good man, and just’.
