From the past:
Born at West Pymble in the days when everyone on the bus knew each other.
Attended Gordon West Primary School ( with Jacqui Weaver ). Won the lottery when selected to go to Asquith Boys High, we even spent a short time at Chatswood High before going moving into the “old” Hornsby Tech buildings then onto our place of learning for the start of Term 3 I think.
My A in Art for the Leaving Certificate gave me a good grounding for spending the next 39 years in local government. I worked for the Councils of Ku-Ring-Gai (whilst also completing 3 years in the CMF as you know now the Army Reserve ), Willoughby, Concord and Gosford. I did a variety of financial and management jobs including Finance Manager and General Manager.
In 1971 I spent 6 months in the UK and Europe and met my later to be wife Helen (another Aussie) from Bendigo, Victoria. We got married later that year and flatted for 4 years in the units just behind the Blue Gum Hotel at Waitara. There was a TAB across the road and as Helen (a nursing sister) use to work weekends I would wander down to Waitara Oval to watch the cricket and football. What a location.
However having to eventually take a more responsible attitude to life we had a house built at Berowra Heights (where we lived for 38 years ). We have 3 children:Four years ago we moved three kilometers to Berowra.
Andrew 40 has a Commerce degree and works as an Accountant in the City. He and his wife Aimi have two children. Sarah 38 (not married no kids) is a Lecturer in Physiotherapy at the Australian Catholic University at North Sydney. Cameron, 35 is a Commercial Producer with 2GB. Cameron and his wife Channon have two children. Both Andrew and Cameron went to Asquith Boys and Sarah went to Asquith Girls. Does this mean for a degree of success "it’s not the school but the child" or is it the other way round?
As an interest I have been into running since I turned 40 and couldn’t see my toes. But after running 30 marathons/ultras in such places as London, Rotterdam, Beijing and South Africa, City to Surfs and numerous fun runs the articular cartilage in one of my knees was disappearing thus stopping this activity.Still there is doing batttle with the traffic on the road bike and of course golf.
Helen and I are still married (is this unconventional?), I am now spending much of my time trying to improve my golf game (a constant work in progress) and looking after the grandkids.
