On the first day of school in 1960 I reported to the "school" only to find a large field with some foundations in place. Students and parents were running around and there was much confusion. Another new staff member and I discovered that the staff were meeting at the old burned out North Sydney Tech building in Hornsby. We went there and met the Headmaster and other staff. We were advised that half the students were to be housed in a wing of Chatswood High School and I was one of them. We finally all got assembled in Hornsby about 6 weeks later. I was appointed as the "Assembly Master" ...mainly because I could shout louder than most others.
