From Ray Kench:
Just had a call from Jim's wife Elaine, that Jim died this morning. [31 May 2016]
He died from his lung problems, not his cancer.
Up to 3 weeks ago he was still delivering "Meals on wheels" and flying his beloved planes.
Please let those who may know him or who may care, that Jim has "passed on".
Was a good friend to me and I will miss him.
Too many mates dying.
Leaves me feeling venerable!
Regrets,
Ray K
Some will remember Jim Saunders as a ' a motorcycle racing Music Teacher-avant garde in the early 60s!'.
At least that is how Jim's wife, Laine, described him in 2010 when replying to an invitation to attend the School's 50th Anniversary celebrations, for which Jim was unable to attend. Jim was present at the School's 25th and 40th Celebrations where he entertained those present at the reunion Dinners with his trumpet. See photos attached. If you don't remember Jim as a teacher of Music, you may recall him as an Industrial Arts teacher during his latter years at ABHS, up till 1977.
Jim's wife Laine also taught at ABHS in the mid to late 70s. Laine was involved in supporting students developing reading skills at that time. I've expressed our sorrow to Laine who remains a member of the ABHS Old Boys Club.

PS. You may also recall the grinning Ray Elkin, in the background, behind microphones in one of these photos.
