From the past:
"After 50 plus first dates met my wife Patricia Anne Stearman on a blind date arranged by Gordon Forsyth. Had to get married in Mar 72 as no one else wanted us...."
2004
After a few days on the beach joined Qantas on 2 Dec 64 (Finance Branch - studied Accountancy while trying to play soccer and golf). After 50 plus first dates met my wife Patricia Anne Stearman on a blind date arranged by Gordon Forsyth. Had to get married in Mar 72 as no one else wanted us.
Have 2 boys - Gareth (born Apr 74 - London) an electrical contractor (0416 020 335) and David (born Aug 77 - Hornsby) a spiritual healer/landscaper (Shigaste at Bayview 0410 681 107). (I thought they were going to support me by the time they turned 15 - both failed). Both single and neither living at home so we are back into noisy sex.
Had 4 overseas postings (called contracts now) with Qantas as Station Accountant - London Sep 72 - Dec 74, London Apr 76 - Nov 76, Port Moresby Mar 78 - Jul 80, and Auckland Aug 80 - Sep 81. They must have liked me.
Left Qantas in Jul 92 after 6 years as Accounting Manager with Qantas Holidays and 3 years as Financing Administration Mgr with Qantas Treasury (financing the purchase of aircraft - definitely over the bookkeepers head but survived). Have worked part time since as a bookkeeper/ landscaper (after Qantas Anne & I did a horticultural course and I had a rush of blood to the head and followed up with a landscape diploma) or whatever.
Anne & I were both orphaned in 2003 - currently pretending to be retired (NINKS - No Income No Kids). No grand kids but Anne is happy to be a surrogate grandmother for anyone. I enjoy looking after the vege garden and chooks. Will get into finishing the renovating of the house we bought in Eastwood in Oct 75 - it was to be a temporary move and we are still here.
Like most of us I have not stayed in contact with school friends other than Gordon Forsyth (we share the same set of school photographs from kindergarten to Leaving Certificate) - we get together with the wives for dinner several times each year.
Only other contacts have been:
John Dawes looked us up in London (thought I saw John crossing Pitt Street several years ago i.e. if he looks like his father). Met Jerry Cahill about 87/8 when our sons were trialling for the Hornsby Gladesville rep soccer team. Caught up with Greg Neilson several years ago. Gordon F and I ran into Geoff Webb at his restaurant in St Ives.
