This coming Thursday I get the privilege of sharing our fabulous school with the Siena Board of Directors. I put together a powerful presentation that encompasses all of the great things we have happening in our building. I highlight our faith and family while featuring the positives our diversity bring. I get to speak to the increase in our academic performance and the rise in our goal for this year due to exceeding our academic goal last year. I get to focus on the positive culture while talking about the ways our staff are working to improve it even more. I invite them for a tour, to follow our social media, to read our newsletter on our webpage and see all that we are doing to make JPIIA exactly who we are and that is all thanks to your students.
In the counseling corner this week, we continue our spotlight on the virtue of acceptance. Our weekly intention is “I will try and understand another person’s perspective before making assumptions”. This is a difficult concept for students and is something that will really help with our social skills and ability to understand each other. On our SEL lesson front this week, we are learning about active listening. This is explained as "whole body" listening to our younger students. It is listening that involves multiple senses such as their eyes, ears, mouth, and body.
Our 5th grade classroom is full of active learning. One of our school goals is to work on math foundational skills for 5-10 minutes multiple times a week. These ladies are working on one of many math games set up to help build on our math facts and foundational skills. The community and systems set up in Mrs. Hapeman's classroom has created a sense of teamwork and responsibility in this group of students. They have grown so much in the couple months this year.
John 23rd is a community program in St. Patrick's church that provides after school tutoring, homework help and enrichment events. They are taking registrations for 4-12 grade. It is a free program. Here is the link to register. 25-26 After School Registration
