Fall is in the air, the leaves are a rainbow, mornings have a chill, and the quarter is ending. The last day to hand in assignments is this Thursday! Teacher's will be working over the weekend to ensure the scores reflect the current learning of the children in class. Report cards will be sent to you on Wednesday, please note what you see currently is a work in progress. As report cards are finalized I wanted to briefly review the meanings of each of the scores.
1 = Students are not yet ready to begin working on this standard. They needed assistance throughout all of the work they did.
2 = Students are learning! Many of our standards cover skills that are taught throughout the year. While they are mastering each part of the standard the score remains a 2. In the first quarter a 2 is where we want the students to be. It demonstrates that they can accomplish some of the standard independently.
3 = A 3 is where we want the students at the end of learning for that standard. If the standard covers both addition and subtraction, they will remain a 2 until we have assessed both addition and subtraction.
4 = A 4 is very rare; it does not equate to an A or consistent 100%s on their work. A 4 is reserved for the special strengths each student has. In Music this will be the student with a natural gift to sing, in Science this may be the student that knows all there is to know about a particular topic such as the weather.
When looking at this first reporting period, celebrate the 2s and look to their success indicators which will give a better understanding of how they are as a student. Our students are working hard and WE as a staff are so proud of the growth they are showing. I can not wait to see all of you at conferences.

Los maestros trabajarán durante el fin de semana para garantizar que las calificaciones reflejen el aprendizaje actual de los niños en clase. En Música, este será el estudiante con un don natural para cantar, en Ciencias, este puede ser el estudiante que sabe todo lo que hay que saber sobre un tema en particular, como el clima.
Al observar este primer período de informes, celebre a los 2 y observe sus indicadores de éxito que le darán una mejor comprensión de cómo son como estudiantes. Nuestros estudiantes están trabajando duro y NOSOTROS, como personal, estamos muy orgullosos del crecimiento que están mostrando. No puedo esperar a verlos a todos en las conferencias.

The archdiocese has set some strict guidelines for Trunk or Treat that we must follow to continue this event in the future. See below for guidelines.
The event must be only for the families of the school. (We could not accept children who are cousins, neighbors, or family friends)
There must be 1 safe environment trained adult for every 10 children. (We will not take walk ups, everyone who signed up will receive a wristband from school the day of the event. Safe environment trained adults will have a different colored wristband.)
Only safe environment trained adults can pass out candy. (We are collecting candy and will have a separate candy station.)
The school building can not be open. (We will not be able to use the bathrooms throughout the 1 hour event)
Unfortunately if there are too many situations where we are not following the guidelines we will need to cancel for next year. I do not want to do that, nor do I want to have to be security at the event. PLEASE follow the requests.
Wristbands will be coming home on Thursday, October 24 in the students monthly packet.

Take Breaks
Your brain, not unlike your body, needs rest to work at its’ optimal level. You will also retain more information if you work/ study in several short sessions versus pulling an “all nighter”. Breaks can include a snack, texting a friend or playing with your dog!!

Friday: "I believe in me, I'm drug free". Ribbons will be provided to students.
The students will be making a chain of kindness throughout guidance classes this week. The chain will be displayed in our hallway.
