Year 8

Course Focus

Year 8 Languages is made up of three modules - one each of Te Reo Māori, French and Spanish.

The course is designed to develop the students understanding of Māori Language and Tikanga, French language and culture and Spanish language and culture.

Course Focus

Te Reo Māori

  • reinforcing and building on the language structures that were learned in Year 7

  • developing more advanced vocabulary

  • developing confidence in using common phrases outside of class

  • broadening the range of waiata, haka and karakia

  • completing tasks towards earning our St Hilda’s Te Reo badges

French

  • introduction to French - focus is on pronunciation and a basic understanding of simple sentence structures

  • developing confidence in using everyday classroom French

  • developing familiarity with commonly used vocabulary

  • exploration of French culture through songs, structures in society and traditions.

  • completing tasks towards earning St Hilda’s French badges.

Spanish

  • introduction to Spanish - focus is on pronunciation and a basic understanding of simple sentence structures

  • developing confidence in using everyday classroom Spanish

  • developing familiarity with commonly used vocabulary

  • exploration of Spanish culture through songs, structures in society and traditions.

  • completing tasks towards earning St Hilda’s Spanish badges.
