Digital Technologies

Year 10 - Semester Option

Digital Technologies introduces students to different areas of designing and developing creative digital outcomes. Students will explore a range of digital media and coding tools to allow them to design and develop their own unique outcomes. There are two main projects in the class focusing on game design and 3D design. Students learn how to create sprites, animations and other digital imaging techniques using Adobe Creative Cloud software. They also learn how to design and code a platform game. Students learn how to create designs for the 3D printer and laser cutter.

Course Focus

The course will develop design thinking and problem-solving skills while building knowledge and skills relating to:

  • design principles and their application to game design

  • development of skills in producing a range of different types of digital graphics

  • designing 2D and 3D objects for printing on the 3D printer and laser cutter

  • coding and programming for games

  • computer science principles that are the foundation of our digital world

This course will be beneficial to students who are thinking of pursuing Digital Technologies, DVC, Art or Textiles as NCEA subjects or in the future.
