Mathematics

Year 7 Mathematics introduces students to the first of two years at Level 4 of the National Curriculum:

• from the number strand we cover number strategies, number facts, special numbers and problem solving

• from the algebra strand we look at patterns, rules and the solving of equations

• measurement focuses on area and perimeter of standard quadrilaterals, triangles and circles in practical situations

• geometry covers work on angles and 2D and 3D shapes

• statistics and probability is approached as a statistical investigation

The Year 7&8 students are taught together in a team-teaching environment and have differentiated learning and enrichment tasks. The students also use Maths Buddy, an online learning tool, to consolidate and revise their mathematical skills. For self-directed learning, the students complete two Mathematics Achievement Challenge badges of their interest.
