Year 10 - Compulsory

English at Year 10 focuses on the strategies for making meaning and creating meaning. A variety of text types are covered including novels, short stories, poetry, and film. The students are also provided with opportunities to write (creatively and formally), speak (impromptu and prepared) and present their ideas in a variety of mediums.

Course Focus

  • development of skills for listening, reading and viewing texts

  • speaking, writing and presenting

  • students encouraged to experiment with their skills and critical thinking

  • particular emphasis on Response to Literature essay writing

  • development of skill set in preparation for NCEA

  • building resilience

Course Contribution: $40 indicative amount, may be subject to change.

Minimum one text, minimum one live performance, field trips.
