Many sacred landscapes and sites have different meanings. These meanings usually connect to different communities and to different people. The main cause of the destruction of these sacred places is colonization. Colonization has effected how names and significance of the place to have "no significance or no meaning". Many Places have a story behind the area. these stories tell who people are and where they come from, Without these people would forget who they are and what these places represent.
Joe Suina is from the Pueblo of Cochiti, He was raised by his grandmother. When he was a young boy, he was raised only knowing about his traditional way of life and only knowing things about his reservation. When he was 6, he was then taken from his home to go to school. He knew nothing of the white mans way, He only knew his traditional ways. while he was away at school, He slowly lost and forgot the ways of his people. Once it came time to go back home, he had completely forgot his ways, but once he started participating again he remembered and was the native he once was, but then it came that time again to go back to school.
History
This podcast had a lot to talk about, Mainly the ways Natives had been forced to not speak their language. There has been many ways, One way many people know about is the Boarding schools that were established to try and strip our identity. Natives are now realizing that without language we are not natives, once we lose our language we are just plain people because without language, we lose our traditional ways of life.
