Welcome back everyone, we hope it was a safe and restful spring break. We only have 2 months left of school. Our students have been doing amazing this school year!
IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY ACADEMIC SIGNING DAY @ HIGHLAND HIGH SCHOOL
On Wednesday, 3/19/25, Idaho State University came to Highland and held their annual Academic Signing Day. Graduating Highland students who were offered a scholarship to Highland were able to acknowledge and celebrate their scholarship on this day by signing a certificate. It is a fun celebration recognizing the hard work these students have put in. Thank you Idaho State University and the Highland College & Career Advisors for putting on this event and we are so proud of our students that were recognized.
HIGHLAND CEREMONIAL GROUNDBREAKING
On Wednesday 3/19/25 at noon there was a ceremonial groundbreaking at Highland High School, marking the beginning of the reconstruction of the parts of Highland lost in the fire. The Highland All Student Body President-Ariana Carrillo, Pocatello/Chubbuck School District #25 Board of Trustees, District Administration, the Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor of Chubbuck, Highland Administration, Highland Parents, Highland Students, and several others were in attendance. We are grateful to the support of so many that have supported Highland. The beginning of this project is exciting and provides motivation to continue pushing forward with our current sacrifices for a couple of more years. Phase 1 is set to be completed after Winter Break of the 2026-27 school year, and Phase 2 later that summer, ready for the 2027-28 school year. View plans and timelines at the Highland Rebuild Website.
HIGHLAND MAKE-A-WISH...$11,000 RAISED FOR RYANNE!
Thank you to Highland Student Leadership for organizing and running all the events and to everyone who participated, sharing their talents with us, for Make-A-Wish week at Highland High School. We were able to surpass our $10,000 goal and raise $11,000 given to Ryanne on behalf of Highland High School and Make-A-Wish. Thank you to everyone who helped donate and raise money for this cause. At the assembly each of the Highland Idol Finalists performed along with the semi-finalists who sang a song together. Miley Dayley performed the National Anthem. Senior Ben Isaak won the Highland Idol competition with his rendition of Sway from Michael Bublé. All performances were absolutely incredible. It was a great event. Again, thank you to everyone who participated and who gave to this great cause.

COLLEGE & CAREER ADVISORS
Fearless Future Scholarship – Highland Students Only! -- Deadline is Friday, April 4th
The Fearless Future Scholarship provides a $1,000 scholarship just for Highland students, and which can be used for training, college, career technical education. All that’s required is a 60-second video uploaded to the Senior Google classroom (as an assignment) that answers two questions found in the assignment. Easy! The deadline has been extended until this Friday, April 4th. Go to the Fearless Future Scholarship assignment in the Senior Google classroom and start creating. The winner will be decided by a committee of faculty and staff. Mark your calendar for the deadline and don’t delay. If you have any questions, stop by and ask the CCAs in C-36.
LAUNCH Grant: Now Accept by Friday, April 4th
The latest round of Idaho Launch grant offers was made before the spring break. We were given an accept / decline deadline of April 8th (in a database called Counselor Suite), but that date is wrong. If you are going to accept or decline in this round, students need to do that by THIS Friday, April 4th. Log in to Scholarship Idaho, click on the button that says “Action Needed,” and then follow the steps. This is good money for training and college and we don’t want students to miss out. Take action . . . today!
BYU-Idaho Visits This Friday, April 4th
Our crackerjack admissions rep from BYU-Idaho, Jarred Brandt, will be visiting Highland this Friday, April 4th, during 2nd and 3rd hours (9:52 am to 12:27 pm), in the CCA pod, C-36. This is THE opportunity to make plans to attend BYU-I, to ask about and complete grants or financial aid requirements, inquire about programs, or you could still apply if you want to. When Jarred is here you can seal the deal and / or get things done. He is super helpful and this is the time to visit with him. Students must have teacher permission to spend time with Jarred.
Job Fair, Monday, April 14th
The All-School-District-25 Job Fair is two weeks from today: Monday, April 14th, at Century High School (in the Commons Area), from 6 to 8 pm. Multiple area employers, the Idaho National Guard, training and apprenticeships, and more will be there. There will be staff members available to review your resume or help you draft one up. Students and families are encouraged to attend.
Scholarships – Don’t Procrastinate !
The timeframe to apply for scholarships is quickly shrinking. The best and easiest scholarship money is found at the colleges / programs to which you’ve been accepted. For instance, go on to the BOSS (the Bengal Online Scholarship System) at Idaho State, Scholarship Universe at the University of Idaho, or Boise State’s Academic Works. In addition, the Senior Google Classroom has an array of scholarships that have come to our attention from many different organizations. Seniors should ask their families if there are scholarships for the children of employees, inquire at your bank, through your insurance company, or where students themselves work (Starbucks, McDonalds, etc.). Deadlines are surely approaching, so focus a couple of hours every day for the next two or three weeks on scholarship applications.
Service Academies Information Session, Saturday, April 12th
Students and families of first-years, sophomores, and juniors, the annual information session for students who might be interested in applying to any of the service academies – Annapolis, West Point, the Air Force Academy, or the Merchant Marine Academy – is Saturday, April 12th, from 10 am to noon, in Boise (Gowen Field, Readiness Bldg # 440, Boise 83642). An RSVP is required for the Boise session. Please call Amy Sorenson (208-523-6701) to confirm you will attend.
Do You Need an ALEKS Test?
Students, have you put a dual-credit math or science class into your academic planner for next year that has an ALEKS score as a prerequisite? ALEKS is a math assessment taken online. Your math teachers, counselors, and CCAs are preparing to offer ALEKS tests at the end of April, but we don’t want any student to be caught by surprise. Students will have the opportunity to sit for the test and then take one re-test to qualify for dual credit. Ask your counselor or math teacher for best advice in preparing for the ALEKS assessment or stop by the CCAs with any questions.
Tomorrow is the start of April – no joke! From here on out, the days and weeks will zip by, so strap in and be ready. This newsletter has vital information and reminders . . . because we all need reminders . . . or nudges . . . or details . . . or guidance. Be careful out there.
Your friendly neighborhood CCAs,
Alice Rowe
