November 11-November 16, 2024
Highland Parent, Student, and Ram Supporter,
On Veteran's Day, Monday 11/11/24, at Highland we will be recognizing our Veterans with a Flag Ceremony and Gun Salute in the morning followed by a video recognizing and honoring Veterans that students watch in their 1st period class. We will follow our normal bell schedule. We love and we are so grateful for those that have sacrificed everything for our freedoms and we are pleased to honor and celebrate our Veterans on this day. Â
Trimester 1 is coming to a close quickly. Finals will take place Tuesday, 11/12 and Wednesday 11/13. Students do not have school on Thursday 11/14 for record day and students do not have school on Friday 11/15 either, it is a teacher work day.Â
Second Trimester begins on Monday 11/18/24. Thanksgiving Break starts Saturday 11/23/24 and goes through Sunday 12/1/24. We are back in school on Monday 12/2/24. Winter Break begins Saturday 12/21/24 and goes through Sunday 1/5/25. We are back in school after winter break on Monday 1/6/25. Â
Please remember that students will not be able to be checked out during a class period where they are taking a final. It causes a disruption to the testing environment that we try to avoid. Here is the Finals Bell Schedule for Trimester 1, 2024-25:Â

If you are interested in Boise State, this is the time to get your questions answered, learn more about financial aid, scholarships, and all the things. Please please register to attend. See the flyer here for a QR code to get yourself on the list for tomorrow. We are SO lucky to have Boise State come to us. Don’t miss this opportunity.
Apprenticeship Night, Wed., Nov. 13th, at 6 pm
Pocatello Chubbuck School District 25 will be hosting Apprenticeship Night – the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, November 13th – at Pocatello High School, from 6 to 8 pm. This is an event for students, their families (parents and siblings) to learn about all the ways Idahoans can learn, earn, find a rewarding career. There will be a wide variety of presenters: health-related careers and companies, the military, the trades, workforce development, and much more. Again, just two days from now is Apprenticeship Night.Â
BYU-I Will Be Here, Wed., Dec. 4th
Our stellar admissions representative from BYU-Idaho, Jarred Brandt, will be here at Highland, on Wednesday, December 4th, starting at 11:15 am through to lunch, in the CCA pod. He will help students complete and submit their applications, finish their applications, give guidance about housing options in Rexburg, and much much more. Students must have teacher OK to be out of class to visit the CCA area, but it is always helpful to sit with a college rep to have your questions answered. Mark your calendar.
FSA ID Night – Success !
Our FSA ID Night was a success. We had a goodly number of seniors and their parents / guardians attend and, as far as we know, there were only a few snafus in setting up the FSA ID.Â
The FSA ID is a required first step before filling out and completing the FAFSA (the instrument by which students become eligible for scholarships and financial aid).Â
If you / your student missed FSA ID Night, not to worry: please have the student make note of his / her Social Security # and have them stop by the CCAs. We can walk them through the FSA ID creation process and then they will coach a parent / guardian through it (if the parent / guardian doesn’t already have one). The FSA ID has to percolate in the ether for 2 to 3 days before it can be used to log in to the FAFSA.
As for the FAFSA, we are hopeful that it will open, as announced, on December 1st. If it does open, we are ready to jump into it and will have a FAFSA Night for students and families in December and another in January. At any rate, watch this newsletter, students will hear about it in the daily announcements, and posters / flyers will be all over school when we announce the first FAFSA Night.Â
Apply Idaho . . . By the Numbers
Thus far, 69 percent (and growing) of Highland’s seniors have completed Apply Idaho. A number of our students have gone directly onto Idaho State’s website and applied there or have made application to out-of-state schools and programs. That is more than 200 of our seniors, more than two-thirds of the senior class.
And many seniors have already received their college acceptance letters / emails. Woo hoo!
While students were completing Apply Idaho, we also had them complete Scholarship Idaho and log on to Next Steps Idaho if that was appropriate.
All of which is to say: nicely done, seniors. Doesn’t it feel grand to have made plans and see a bright future?
