CALENDARS
These calendars are continually updated and provide all of the important academic and athletic/activities dates for the school year. Please look at them regularly for questions about calendar items.Â
October 14-October 19, 2024
Highland Parent, Student, and Ram Supporter,
Highland Yearbook has a new website to visit with all your yearbook needs. This site is a good landing pad for students and family members to find information in one easy to navigate place. Highland Yearbook Website
We were able to put new bleachers in the Highland Gym that can provide additional seating so we can host our own games for Winter Sports and Activities coming up. This will require us to stack basketball games instead of having the Freshman and JV at the same time in separate gyms. We are excited to be able to host our events here at Highland. We greatly appreciate the support from District Administration to make this possible. We also want to thank Century and Pocatello High Schools for letting us use their facilities up until now.Â
NATIONAL HONORS SOCIETY
The National Honors Society Induction of new members will take place tonight, 10/14/24, at 7:00pm in the Highland Auditorium.Â
THANK YOU CONNECTIONS CREDIT UNION!

COLLEGE & CAREER ADVISORS
Seniors => Apply Idaho Day, Wed., October 16th
The college career advisors and other helpers will be assisting senior students with Apply Idaho on Wednesday, October 16th, in the library, during Government classes. Never fear if you don’t have Government this trimester: we have a list of those students and will call them to C-36 or they may join us at ANY point on Wednesday.
Apply Idaho is the platform from which students can apply to 10 Idaho colleges and career technical institutions for free. We presented to Government classes last week, asking them to be thoughtful in their research and application choices. In addition to Apply Idaho, we will encourage students to establish a Scholarship Idaho account AND apply to Idaho Launch for in-demand careers. Between Apply Idaho, Scholarship Idaho, and Idaho Launch students have a ton of opportunities.Â
In preparation for Apply Idaho, we would ask students:
> To know their Social Security number (put it in a password-protected file in your phone, not a picture of it). Apply Idaho and Scholarship Idaho will ask for it. It's good for seniors to know their S.S. #, anyway.
> Consider what their program or their college major might be – and Undecided is also a perfectly acceptable option.
> Be thoughtful in your applications. We hope each senior will apply to at least one Idaho college or training program and will only apply to the schools for which they have a sincere interest.
Here is a link to the hand-out we gave out to seniors last week: URLs, information, more.

In addition, we can / will help students complete their applications for any out-of-state schools, private colleges, or the BYU schools (you'll need a credit or debit card for those, though.
U.S. Military Academy at West Point
There will be an information session for students and families interested in application to / service at West Point:
Tuesday, Oct. 15th
6 to 7 pm
Salt Lake City area
RSVP at: Â https://apply.westpoint.edu/register/MillcreekUTÂ
Portneuf Valley College / Life Fair – Success!
The Portneuf Valley College / Life Fair was today (Monday, October 14th) and it was a success. More than 50 exhibitors were there: colleges, training programs, the Idaho National Guard and the Marines, career technical training, schools of cosmetology, and more. Highland took more than 150 students and the response has been positive. Ask your student if he / she attended and what they took away from the experience.
Next Up . . .Â
After Apply Idaho Day (October 16th) students will start to hear back from colleges, so we hope that students will regularly check their personal email and be responsive.
We will have an FSA ID Night in November – watch his blog to mark your calendar for that event – and we will stand ready to help students and families complete the FAFSA when it opens up.

If you are a Junior and would like to take the PSAT to qualify for National Merit or to prepare for the SAT that is given; in the spring, you will need to sign up in the Junior Counseling Center Google classroom (ljnspeq) and complete the form to request an exam or you may use the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1DzI59U6ayyiqwJdmAZ7n2CYoLGyX4Cyod7GT2kGfJbU/edit
As mentioned before, the benefits of taking the exam include an opportunity to become familiar with the content and testing process for the SAT. When testing results are utilized, they provide students feedback on their academic strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities to explore career interests, access college searches and help with placement for training or college programs.
