CALENDARS
These calendars are continually updated and provide all of the important academic and athletic/activities dates for the school year. Please look at them regularly for questions about calendar items.Â
January 6-January 11, 2025
Highland Parent, Student, and Ram Supporter,
We welcome everyone back from Winter Break! It was great to see our students again and to be back in our routines chasing our new goals for 2025. 2024 was a great year and we are excited to make this year even better.Â
Highland will be holding their elective and extracurricular activity fair on Monday, January 27th from 6pm-7:30pm in the Highland Commons, Gym, and Library. This is an opportunity to get an idea of what electives students may want to take before academic planning begins, to speak with the teachers who offer those electives, and to explore extracurricular options. Summer plans for Highland extracurriculars will also be provided. Please put the date on your calendar and plan on attending.Â
ATTENDANCE:
Every day matters and missing just 1 day of class can have an impact on a students academics, adding up quickly, resulting in falling behind as well as truancy troubles.Â

COLLEGE & CAREER ADVISORS
FAFSA Night # 2, Tuesday, January 14th
If you missed last month’s first FAFSA Night, never fear, we have another one planned for NEXT WEEK: Tuesday, January 14th, starting at 6 pm, in Highland’s Library. As before, we will have help from financial aid experts and other college personnel, along with Highland staff – we’ll have all the support and encouragement a student and parent / guardian could ask for. It is optimal for the student AND parent / guardian to come together to FAFSA Night because the one (student) invites the other (parent / guardian) to contribute. The parent / guardian can bring a personal laptop because there will be guest wifi. Mark your calendar to be there and we’ll help you get this important step done. And as before, food, snacks, and beverages will be provided. Mark your calendars.
Create your FSA ID !
There is no FAFSA, or FAFSA submission, without an FSA ID. If you have not yet established your FSA ID, please visit the CCAs to get one accomplished. Bring your Social Security # to the CCAs in C-36 and get that task done before you leave for your winter break. Then you’ll be good to go for FAFSA Night # 2 next week. If you are first in your family to go to college, then your parent / guardian will need an FSA ID, too. We’ll show you how to walk someone else through it.
Launch Grant Contingent Offers – MUST Accept by January 24th
If you applied for a Launch grant on Scholarship Idaho, you may have received an email over the holiday break asking you to accept or decline your contingent Launch grant offer. Did you check your personal email over the break? Please look to see if you got such an email and, if so, take action. The January 24th deadline is a hard one. Ask the CCAs if you have any questions. Also, remember that students need to complete the four modules on the Career Pathway Plan (on the Next Steps website) before your Launch monies will be released. Don’t procrastinate in getting those modules done. The Launch grant is a great financial opportunity and we don’t want anyone to miss out.
Scholarship Season
The CCAs want to help seniors apply for scholarships. These next few months – January to early April – are critical in applying for institutional scholarships. Apply apply apply, and then in April and May students can weigh their acceptances and financial aid offers to find the training program or school that will work best for them. Many scholarships will require the FAFSA, which is why we encourage everyone to complete and submit one. In addition to institutional scholarships, we will announce opportunities that come over the transom. Stop by the CCAs with any questions or to sit with us to focus on scholarship applications.
Happy New Year everyone. In the Chinese zodiac it is the year of the wood snake and according to Google, it is “a time of transformation, growth, and introspection.” We can all get behind that. And hard work; let's all try to work hard. And let’s all focus, keep our eyes on the prize.
